Linda Sullivan, President & CEO of ARTSFAIRFAX, has been named Honorary Chair of the 2018 33rd Annual Fairfax Spotlight on the Arts Festival (Festival) in appreciation of her leadership of in the arts throughout the Fairfax region.

Since 1985, the spring arts Festival – a collaborative effort between the City of Fairfax and George Mason University – has grown from a weekend event to over three weeks of arts-related activities. The festival’s mission enhances awareness of cultural opportunities, encourages new and emerging arts groups in the greater Fairfax area, and provides scholarship opportunities for well-qualified students to attend arts related courses at Mason. The annual event helps to build community awareness of the arts and showcase local talent. This year, the Festival runs from April 20 through May 20, 2018 and features more than seventy arts and cultural events for residents, employees, and visitors to enjoy.

During the Festival’s opening gala reception, Fairfax Spotlight on the Arts’ Chairman, Michael DeMarco recognized Ms. Sullivan for the Arts Council’s/ARTSFAIRFAX’s ongoing support of the arts throughout the region and contributing to the festival’s growth and success. Ms. Sullivan accepted the award on behalf of the Arts Council, which–as part of its recent name change and rebrand effort–launched its new website, upgrading its technology services to better serve more than 250 arts organizations and artists in the area, and drive awareness to hundreds of arts activities in the greater Fairfax area.

“The Fairfax Spotlight on the Arts has become a model of growth in community arts programming,” said Linda Sullivan, President and CEO of ARTSFAIRFAX. “What began as ‘shining a light’ on the arts has grown into a major community celebration, drawing audiences from the City of Fairfax and beyond. We look forward to building our services for greater support and growth.”

Sullivan joined ARTSFAIRFAX as President and CEO in 2010. She is responsible for repositioning the organization from primarily a presenting organization to one that now serves more than 250 arts organizations and artists throughout Fairfax County, the City of Fairfax, and the City of Falls Church. Under Sullivan’s leadership, ARTSFAIRFAX helps to ensure a vibrant arts community that creates a sense of place, fuels social and economic growth, and unites people of diverse backgrounds to attract business, residents and visitors to the region.

Past Honorary Chairmen of the Festival have included: Dr. Angel Cabrera and Dr. Beth Cabrera; Apple Federal Credit Union – Larry Kelly, CEO; The Honorable Jane Woods; Dr. and Mrs. Alan Merten; and Maestro Luiz Haza.
