A Media Quilt Project “A MEDIA QUILT PROJECT” will utilize the concept of a traditional quilt through the lens of current video technology. This will be a collectively created large-scale patchwork grid of projected videos assembled as a single unit, from themes generated by the submitting artists (from Baltimore City and County), that are often portrayed in traditional quilts, such as: comfort, friendship, love, gratitude, history / cultural heritage, family, inequality, emotional and physical scarring, and loss. Artists may submit from two to six videos within a particular theme of their choosing. | December 29, 2024 |
Workhouse Open Call For Exhibitions 2025 This open call for proposals facilitates submissions from parties interested in having a solo or group exhibition at Workhouse in Building W-16. Art in Daily Spaces Step into the heart of daily life with ART! The Annandale Gallery Project “Art in Daily Spaces” (ADS) initiative invites fifteen local artists to showcase their creations in one of 15 different spaces in Annandale, VA for the second ADS show. The goal is to seamlessly integrate art into people’s everyday environments, providing casual visitors and patrons the opportunity to encounter, appreciate, and purchase local artists’ works at affordable prices. Request for Qualifications: Art at the Intersection in Downtown Washington, D.C. The Golden Triangle Business Improvement District (“BID”) is well-regarded for its impeccable streets, vivid landscaping, engaging activations, and world-class public art. The BID is seeking qualifications from an artist or artist team to design, fabricate, install, and de-install a two-year temporary public art installation at the prominent intersection of Connecticut Avenue and K Streets, NW. Bethesda Film Fest – Call for Submissions The Bethesda Arts & Entertainment District invites filmmakers from Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. to submit a recent, original short (5-30 minutes) film for the 13th annual Bethesda Film Fest! Films must have been completed within the last two years, and all topics are eligible. Up to five films will be selected to be shown. A film by a young filmmaker, under age 18 (or still in High School Spring 2025), may also be chosen. Filmmakers whose films are selected will receive an honorarium of $1,000, and young filmmakers will receive $250. | January 10, 2025 |
Golden Haiku Poetry Competition The Golden Triangle Business Improvement District is thrilled to announce the 2025 Golden Haiku theme “Bridges of Belonging”. Each year, we invite the public to write and submit original, contemporary haiku for this temporary community art project. The submission period is now open and closes January 19, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time. Poets are invited to submit up to two original, self-authored haiku. Winning poets will receive monetary awards and recognition. Selected haiku will be shared on social media and displayed throughout the Golden Triangle neighborhood in March. | January 19, 2025 |
Call for Submissions – Nice Art Grant The Nice Art Grant is an artist grant provided by Midwest Nice Art. Nice Grant is an unrestricted grant of $500 that supports emerging and mid-career artists. This annual grant is due January 20; each cycle, at least two artists will be selected to enhance their creative practices. This grant will be juried by Midwest Nice Art co-founders Tim Rickett + Epiphany Knedler. Winners will be asked to help jury Nice Grant in the following year. Winners will receive unrestricted grant funds, a blog profiling their art and creative practice, a post pinned to Midwest Nice Art’s profile, and consideration for future jurying and curatorial opportunities. | January 20, 2025 |

Community Arts Use at Capital One Hall
Capital One Hall opened in October 2021 with a 1500-seat performance hall, The Vault – a 250 seat black box theatre, and classrooms available for community use at specially negotiated rates for Fairfax County-based non-profit art groups, and arts-related programming by Fairfax County agencies and Fairfax County Public Schools.
Exhibit at Tysons Corner Center
ArtsFairfax has partnered with Macerich, the owners and developers of Tysons Corner Center, to showcase local artists, artist teams, and arts organizations in Fairfax County. This unique collaboration will enable the more than 20 million yearly visitors who explore Tysons Corner Center’s retail and entertainment offerings to discover the diversity, creativity, and quality of visual artists from the Fairfax region.
