Ancestral Iconography
Work by Zsudayka Nzinga Terrell
Emerson Gallery
Rooted in research, Zsudayka Nzinga is interested in examining issues related to American labor systems and their historical and ongoing impact on the communities and cultures of the diaspora in America. Sourcing traditional American folklore and myth, her work creates fantasy interior, exterior, and figurative spaces from hand-printed and painted materials.
Heirlooms: Garden Beauty
Work by Darlene R. Taylor
Emerson Gallery
Multidisciplinary artist Darlene R. Taylor merges heirloom fabrics and paper in portraits that meditate on the lifework, sweatwork, and lovework of Black mothers. Memory pulses within Taylor’s chosen fabrics: vintage linens, laces, cottons, and buttons handed down from one generation to another.
Dream a Better World
Work by Sabine Carlson
Atrium Gallery
Dream a Better World displays a series of paintings where water birds and humans appear to be engaged in various kinds of rescue efforts. Carlson’s work depicts chance encounters between humans and water birds alongside rivers, lakes and the sea.
The MPA Atrium Gallery is available for viewing during McLean Community Center operating hours. The Emerson Gallery is open for visitors Mondays through Saturdays from 10am – 4pm.
In addition to the May 2 Opening Exhibition Reception, a Tea & Talk with Artistic Director Nancy Sausser is scheduled for Wednesday, May 13, 2026 at 11am, and an Artist Talk is scheduled for Saturday, May 30, 2026. Both events will take place at MPA at McLean Community Center.
MPA’s 2026 Spring Solo Exhibitions are sponsored by the O’Shaughnessy Hurts Memorial Foundation.
