Copying the works of master artists is a time-honored tradition and continues today in our own National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC. Artists can learn so much from copying the works of history’s greatest artists! In this class, you will choose the painting you wish to copy (the instructor will provide instructions on how to obtain high quality prints to paint from).
Alternatively, you may choose from the instructor’s collection of prints. Participants will practice the solutions that other great artists have mastered while copying their work. Visual acuity, value relationships, handling color with confidence, composition, and various painting processes used historically, such as grisaille to duotone to full color.
Requirements: This class is open to youth students 13 – 18, who demonstrate the ability to handle paint with proficiency, have command of the drawing skill including perspective, and/or have taken Level I and Level II Drawing in our Youth Studies program.
Supplies included in tuition fee.
