“250 and Counting,” Falls Church Arts Gallery Exhibit
Falls Church Arts Gallery is honored to present “250 and Counting,” featuring 66 works that reference American life since the Declaration of Independence. The exhibition opens April 18, 2026, and runs through May 31, 2026.
Artists were invited to reflect on our shared history, culture, ideals, struggles, or visions of the future. “250 and Counting” opens with a “meet-the-artists” reception scheduled for Saturday, April 18, from 7:00–9:00 p.m. The event, which is free and open to the public, will provide visitors with the opportunity to meet participating artists, as well as to vote for the People’s Choice Award. The Juror’s Choice Award will be announced during the opening.
The art on view will encompass a diversity of styles, perspectives, and stories. Artists chose distinctive themes such as baseball, barber shops, civil rights icons, immigration, the fragility of our democracy, the moon landing, the open road, tobacco, the struggle for women’s voting rights, and military service that honors “national ideals while revealing the deeply personal cost of defending them and the ongoing work of healing afterward.” Works were created in a wide range of media, including eggshells, silverware, thread, Sculpey clay, stoneware, photography, ink, and denim, as well as paint.
Pamela Huffman, juror for the event noted: “It is such an honor and a responsibility to jury a show about art that represents America at this moment in history…The artists were both skilled and courageous and the work reflected deep thought and a willingness to engage with America as it was in the past, is in the present, and may evolve into in the future….It is truly e pluribus unum – out of many, one. Out of many viewpoints, one show; a show that embodies the heart of America.” Huffman is also a local artist, curator, and community arts activist.
The Falls Church Arts gallery is at 700-B West Broad St. (Route 7), Falls Church. Admission is free, and the gallery is open Tuesdays–Fridays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Masks are optional, and guests are asked to postpone their visit if they are not well.
All of the artworks are for sale, and can be viewed in person or online at https://www.fallschurcharts.org. Pieces can be purchased at the gallery or on the website. Visitors to the show can cast their ballot for the People’s Choice Award until May 15; the winner will be announced on May 16.
