18th Annual MPAartfest to Feature Inaugural Yarn Bombing Installation

MPAartfest’s return to McLean Central Park on Sunday, October 5 will feature a revived look this year, thanks to the festival’s inaugural yarn bombing installation.

A form of street art in which knitted fabric is used to cover or decorate mundane objects, yarn bombing transforms ordinary public areas into colorful, whimsical spaces. Coordinated by MPA board member Jill Young, the MPAartfest yarn bombing installation will feature work created by various community groups and organizations, including The Mather (whose work is pictured here), MPA’s Board of Directors, and other community volunteers.

In addition to yarn bombing, MPAartfest 2025 will feature a one-day juried fine art and craft show/sale featuring the work of more than 35 local and regional visual artists. This FREE event includes contemporary art, two performance stages showcasing some of the DC-area’s best musical talents, three children’s art tents, food vendors, and much more.

MPAartfest 2025 is made possible with the generous support of the McLean Community Center, and through partnerships with Fairfax County Park Authority and community and corporate sponsors.

MPAartfest admission is FREE, and all are welcome and encouraged to join. Parking will be available at the McLean Community Center, at 1234 Ingleside Avenue. For more information visit www.mpaart.org or email info@mpaart.org.
