Maryam Rassapour

I am an Iranian-American contemporary fine artist who blends traditional Persian art themes with modern, mixed media techniques to bring attention to feminist issues, my primary subject area. My artwork has been deeply influenced by my childhood experiences under war conditions and a theocratic autocracy that imposed societal constraints on all women. Through my art, I strive to harmonize form and meaning by creating pieces where both the visual elements and underlying semantics mesh together. This end product invites viewers to explore the space between reality and dreams and challenges them to understand the different perspectives of life as a woman.

I’ve been in the creative field for over 20 years. I hold a BFA/MFA in Visual Communication Arts from Azad University in Tehran, Iran. After moving to the United States, I began working as a freelance art teacher. Additionally, I taught at The Little Picasso and Portfolio Prep for nearly six years serving as a portfolio preparation instructor and project planner for all age groups. Due to the covid pandemic, the studio closed for a few years, but I continued private teaching remotely until I established my own studio in Reston where I continue to work today. In addition to teaching, I produce my own art and exhibit my artwork at various galleries and venues in D.C., Miami, Orlando, and The Art and Craft Museum in L.A. Currently, I am working on an animation project for Northdale Films LLC in L.A. that is focused on feminist issues.
