Bryan Stevenson, Author

Bryan Stevenson is the founder and Executive Director of the Equal Justice Initiative (EJI), a human rights organization based in Montgomery, Alabama. Under his leadership, EJI has won major legal challenges addressing excessive and unfair sentencing, exonerating innocent people on death row, confronting abuse of incarcerated people and people with mental illness and aiding children prosecuted as adults.

Mr. Stevenson has argued and won multiple cases before the United States Supreme Court, including a 2019 ruling protecting condemned prisoners with dementia and the landmark 2012 decision banning mandatory life-without-parole sentences for children 17 or younger. He and his team have helped win reversals or release for more than 140 wrongly condemned death row prisoners, along with relief for hundreds of others who were unjustly convicted or sentenced.
