The National Concert Band of America presents Reclaiming Space
Reclaiming Space is an inspiring celebration of identity, resilience, and triumph, honoring heroes who stood tall to make their voices heard. The concert launches with Omar Thomas’ explosive, disco-fueled work A Mother of a Revolution!, honoring the brave trans women of color who sparked the Stonewall Riots. The mood shifts to warm reflection in Chris Pilsner’s Dum Spiro Spero, followed by the uplifting message of unity in John Philip Sousa’s march Hands Across the Sea.
The second half brings high-energy jazz rhythms in Robert Lowden’s Dixieland Jamand reaches its climax in Valerie Coleman’s Roma, a rich tribute to the heritage and strength of Romani women. It is a powerful, joy-filled program about standing proud and taking center stage.
