Dabke Dance Classes

Heal through movement and learn the history, culture, basic styles and steps to Palestinian, Lebanese and Iraqi dabke, alongside choreography for performance at our Dabke Social event!

We will be teaching 5 weeks of in-depth dabke steps, techniques, choreography and cultural history and significance at $35/per class + performance, starting every Tuesday in October (6, 13, 20, 27) and November 3, 2026 at Velocity Dance Studio in Vienna, Virginia.

Listed by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, the folkloric Shami —derived from al Sham, the Levant region that includes the modern day countries of Palestine, Lebanon, Syria and Jordan — dance has ancient roots in community. Another version of it in Iraq is called dabcha or chobi. It is performed professionally and informally, all as a way of sharing joy with the community at celebrations such as festivals, weddings and graduations.
