I have always been curious about how people think. How they view themselves and how others view them. And what "game" people are really playing with one another. Little did I know, these are the questions that actors and directors ask all the time. They try to understand the world of the play, a microcosm, and discern the value systems and tactic laws of that community of people. By studying other people, we get to better know ourselves -- our historical time period, our gifts, our challenges, our values, and our preferences. We are simultaneously looking outward and inward to create a fuller understanding of our world and our place within it.
Theatre brings context to our lives. It tells the narratives of our struggles, our virtues, our triumphs, our failures, our hopes and our desires. In this residency, we unearth what is behind the mask together. I look forward to working with teachers and students as we pursue the discovery process.
