The World Police and Fire Games is a spectacular biennial event celebrating the athletic ability, honor, courage and camaraderie of first responders. 12,000 first responders from 70 countries will compete in Fairfax County, VA. Past hosts include Indianapolis, Barcelona, Melbourne, Vancouver, New York and Belfast.

Several community members and elected officials joined on Tuesday, December 15 at Hyatt Park near Reston Town Center for the dedication of Reston's newest public art sculpture "Reston Rondo" by artist Mary Ann Mears. This private-public venture has been supported by Reston Community Center, Reston Town Center Association, Hyatt Regency Reston, and Initiative for Public Art - Reston.

Lean on Me Color 6x10-2-300x200The Initiative for Public Art – Reston (IPAR) is one of 919 nonprofit organizations nationwide to receive a National Endowment for the Arts’ (NEA) Art Works grant. IPAR is recommended for a $20,000 grant to support the creation of a temporary, site-specific, large-scale public artwork in Reston by internationally acclaimed artist Patrick Dougherty.
 
NEA Chairman Jane Chu, who announced the grant, said: "I'm pleased to be able to share the news of our support through Art Works, including the award to Initiative for Public Art – Reston. The arts foster value, connection, creativity and innovation for the American people, and these recommended grants demonstrate those attributes and affirm that the arts are part of our everyday lives.

BunnymanBridgeCollective 2014 12Northern Virginia's artist collective, Bunnyman Bridge Collective, continues to break new ground with their sixth art exhibition this year. The Bunnyman Bridge Collective, will be back at Epicure Cafe for the opening reception of the art exhibition "Divine" on December 13 from 8pm-midnight. Curated by The Bunnyman Bridge Collective, Divine brings together 10 local artists working in a variety of media from stencil art, calligraphy, poetry, painting, drawing, mixed media, textiles, and more.

voce dec2014Celebrate the holidays with Voce in this joyous program that includes Donald McCullough’s When Christ Was Born—a setting of medieval English texts for chorus, soloists, and harp. Harpist Marian Rian Hays, who commissioned and premiered the piece just last year, will join Voce for these performances.
