The Bethesda Painting Awards was established by Carol Trawick in 2005. Ms. Trawick has served as a community activist for more than 25 years in downtown Bethesda. She is past chair of the Bethesda Urban Partnership, Bethesda Arts & Entertainment District, and Founder of the Trawick Prize: Bethesda Contemporary Art Awards.

Ways to Participate in the 14th Annual Gifts From the HeART Exhibition to Benefit Reston Interfaith at RCC Lake Anne

Exhibit Dates: December 3, 2012 – February 4, 2013

The Art League seeks artists who have developed, and continue to develop, a strong, cohesive, and exciting body of work for our prestigious solo artist exhibits. Our aim, whether we exhibit experimental or traditional works, is to adhere to the highest standards of quality. While we seek beautifully executed work, we also value work that is innovative, artwork that presents the artist’s unique voice, and work that engages the viewer intellectually, emotionally, as well as visually.

A panel of three judges, all arts professionals from around the region, will review each application and select up to nine exhibits for the 2014 calendar year. Judges this year are: Samantha May from Hillyer Art Space, Dr. Claudia Rosseau, from Montgomery College and Mary Cook, former director of the Target Gallery and founder of the Microwave Project. The Reston Association, in partnership with the Initiative for Public Art – Reston (IPAR), is seeking an artist to develop an interactive water feature for Dogwood Pool, Reston. This opportunity is open to established professional artists living in the metropolitan Washington, DC area. An artist will be commissioned to work with the design team working on the renovation plans to develop an interactive water feature element that will be installed between the pool area and the picnic pavilion. An artwork at this community facility will strengthen its profile and attractiveness for current and future residents. An interactive artwork will enhance the playful experience that people can have there. Application deadline is April 6, 2012.

Falls Church Arts invites artists to submit work in any “ism.” Can you see references in your work to Georges Braque’s cubism, Georges Rouault’s fauvist paintings, Pierre-Auguste Renoir’s impressionism, or to any other “ism” of any period? Here is your opportunity to declare the links between the artists who have been classified into particular styles or “isms” and their influence on your work. Entries due 5:00 pm, Wednesday, February 22, 2012.

The Reunion Music Society, Inc. and the Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA), Annandale campus, are pleased to announce the fifth year of a music scholarship program being offered to Northern Virginia area high school bassists and cellists. The Lafayette Jackson Memorial Scholarship is available to two (2) eligible students during the 2012-2013 academic year. Applications must be received by March 30, 2012.
