Terry Liu, Arts Education Specialist
National Endowment for the Arts (NEA)

Since 1990, in his role as an Arts Specialist at the National Endowment for the Arts, Terry Liu has personally manages over 100 applications a year. Each year he consults by telephone hundreds of applicants from non-profit organizations throughout the country. During the three-year period (1996-1999) when he was not employed by the National Endowment for the Arts, Terry served as Traditional Arts Coordinator at a The Arts Council for Long Beach, a local arts agency in Southern California where he conducted field research and documentation; offered a wide range of technical assistance for traditional artists in the Long Beach / Los Angeles area; networked artists, cultural specialists, presenters, venues, and supporters; served as regional coordinator to develop folk arts infrastructure in Southern California in coordination with the Alliance for California Traditional Arts (ACTA) and the California Arts Council. During that time he also served on over 20 grants panels from New Jersey to California, gave free grant writing workshops and pro-bono assistance to small organizations seeking public and private support, and submitted applications that resulted in hundreds of thousands of grant dollars awarded to folk and traditional arts projects in Southern California.

In his role as an Arts Specialist at the National Endowment for the Arts, Terry Liu has personally managed up to 300 applications a year. At the moment he is managing 115 applications for arts education projects that will be reviewed by panel next month that total $ 5.7 million in amount requested.

Terry lives in Merrifield area of Vienna, VA, has played violin with Mariachi Los Amigos at many Fairfax County Park stages, practices Reiki with the Northern Virginia healing community, and is the proud poppy of a sixth grader in Fairfax County Public Schools.
