The League of Reston Artists showcases the paintings of Antonella Manganelli at Reston Corner One.  Manganelli's paintings reflect her meditations on the peaceful and warlike duality of human nature. The exhibit is free and the building is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 am–5:00 pm at Reston Corner One, 12001 Sunrise Valley Dr., Reston, VA 20191. Reston Photographic Society Focuses on March Program

The Reston Photographic Society invites photography enthusiasts to attend the Monday, March 16 meeting from 7:00–9:00 pm in Room 6 at the Reston Community Center Hunters Woods, 2310 Colts Neck Rd., Reston, VA 20191. RPS is a special interest group of the League of Reston Artists and holds meetings on the third Monday of the month, from September–November and January–May. Photographers of all skill levels are invited to share information and enjoy guest speakers, workshops and group critiques. Nonmembers are welcome. The League of Reston Artists exhibits paintings, mixed media, two-dimensional hangable art and photography by members. Many of these works depict the natural environment and natural resources, in keeping with the mission of US Geological Survey scientists and staff. This exhibit will run through March 30 at the USGS, National Gallery, 12201 Sunrise Valley Dr., Reston, VA 20191. The exhibit is free and open 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday; parking is available in the visitors' lot adjacent to the entrance where visitors pass through security. This special annual League of Reston Artists' show honors Patricia Macintyre, the founder of LRA. This year's theme is Reston and artworks include original painting, mixed media, and two-dimensional (nonphotographic) hangable art. Our Faire is a family-friendly day of fun, excitement and hands-on learning.  It showcases the amazing creativity and diversity of makers in our area. The Faire will be on Sunday, March 15, 2015 from 10 am to 5pm at South Lakes High School and Langston Hughes Middle School in Reston.

IPAR Receives $20,000 NEA Grant to Support Patrick Dougherty Public Art Project

Lean on Me Color 6x10-2-300x200The Initiative for Public Art – Reston (IPAR) is one of 919 nonprofit organizations nationwide to receive a National Endowment for the Arts’ (NEA) Art Works grant. IPAR is recommended for a $20,000 grant to support the creation of a temporary, site-specific, large-scale public artwork in Reston by internationally acclaimed artist Patrick Dougherty.
 
NEA Chairman Jane Chu, who announced the grant, said: "I'm pleased to be able to share the news of our support through Art Works, including the award to Initiative for Public Art – Reston. The arts foster value, connection, creativity and innovation for the American people, and these recommended grants demonstrate those attributes and affirm that the arts are part of our everyday lives.
