Are you a mural artist? Call for Entry Feb 13

The Baltimore Office of Promotion & the Arts (BOPA) seeks mural artists and artist teams to submit qualifications for consideration and inclusion in the Baltimore Mural Program’s Mural Artist Registry by February 13, 2015. The Mural Artist Registry will be used to aid the selection of qualified artists for Baltimore Mural Program commissions and to distribute notifications regarding upcoming mural artist opportunities. This registry will also be made publicly available for groups seeking artists for hire.

IPAR Receives $20,000 NEA Grant to Support Patrick Dougherty Public Art Project

Lean on Me Color 6x10-2-300x200The Initiative for Public Art – Reston (IPAR) is one of 919 nonprofit organizations nationwide to receive a National Endowment for the Arts’ (NEA) Art Works grant. IPAR is recommended for a $20,000 grant to support the creation of a temporary, site-specific, large-scale public artwork in Reston by internationally acclaimed artist Patrick Dougherty.
 
NEA Chairman Jane Chu, who announced the grant, said: "I'm pleased to be able to share the news of our support through Art Works, including the award to Initiative for Public Art – Reston. The arts foster value, connection, creativity and innovation for the American people, and these recommended grants demonstrate those attributes and affirm that the arts are part of our everyday lives.

Public Art Opportunity in Arlington, VA, Deadline Jan 30, 2013

publicart_opp2013.jpgArlington County, Virginia is accepting qualifications from artists or artist teams interested in a public art opportunity at the County’s western border near Columbia Pike and S. Jefferson Street. The selected artist/team will design, fabricate, and install a work of art or design enhancement that can be enjoyed by people using all modes of transportation and that has the potential to become a landmark or identifier for Columbia Pike. While designing the artwork/design enhancement, the selected artist must take into consideration improvements planned for Columbia Pike’s streetscape, including infrastructure, transit, and open space, and create a work of art/design enhancement that can exist successfully within current, interim, and planned conditions. The selected artist will also develop and implement a community engagement plan, which may include a temporary project or other activities. Ultimately, this entire project is intended to set a high bar of excellence for future transit‐related public art projects planned for Columbia Pike.  Project budget, including artist design fee, materials, fabrication, installation, travel and expenses, is $200,000.

Silver Line Phase 1 - Public Art Projects

The Cooperative Agreement between Metro and Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA) stipulates that the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) shall manage and coordinate the public art component of the Phase-One Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project. WMATA staff, in cooperation with MWAA, conducted a competition for public art proposals for the five phase-one stations.  This is the first time that public art will be integrated at a metro station in Fairfax County.
